Mitra Phukan è originaria dell’Assam, nell’India nord-orientale. Collabora attivamente col quotidiano “Assam Tribune” e con il North East Writers' Forum, per cui dirige il periodico NEWFrontiers. È interprete di musica tradizionale assamese.
Traduce dall’assamese all’inglese. Ha pubblicato numerose storie per bambini tra cui Mamani's Adventures e Chumki posts a letter e curato un’antologia di racconti di scrittori assamesi. Il suo primo romanzo, The Collector’s Wife, è stato pubblicato nel 2005 in India da Zubaan.
Mitra Phukan comes from Assam (North-Western India). She actively collaborates with the daily newspaper “Assam Tribune”, for which she regularly contributes articles, and with the North East Writers' Forum, editing the journal NEWFrontiers. She is also an interpreter of traditional Assamese music.
She translates from Assamese into English. She has published various tales for children among which Mamani's Adventures and Chumki posts a letter and edited an anthology of short stories by Assamese writers. Her first novel, The Collector’s Wife, was published in 2005 in India by Zubaan.
